Hiding a second game inside Oh, the French!

25 Oct 2025 · Oh, the French!

After getting the feedback, I was generally more open to adding things to the game, and I wanted to create an Easter egg. I wanted to pay homage to a game I made with my friends a long, long time ago, and because it fit the theme of OTF.

Way back when we started to make games, around 2018, we built and shipped an endless runner called Strawhat Stroll. The main mechanic was changing between side-scroll and top-down perspectives to avoid obstacles. It was an amazing game, which was sadly lost to time in one of the Play Store's purges. It was amazing because we made it in a month, and after that we wouldn't make anything so quickly ever again (discounting jams ofc). Maybe it was beginner's luck, or maybe we just felt free to make something fun, unburdened by our own expectations.

Anyway, I decided to remake that game. What had taken us a month then, surely should take me no more than a day now! It took a couple weeks longer than that, but it was all worth it. I added a whole new ending, but to reward those who reached it, I also made it bigger than the original. It could even be considered the "true" ending. So maybe it cannot be considered an Easter egg any more.

I think it's very easy to miss, although one player commented on it, so now it's probably much more obvious. But even if no one had played it, it is good that it's there. As Mark Rosewater's rule 8 says: "Details are where players fall in love with your game." Having a detail like that at least creates the possibility of stumbling upon it. I wanted to add something like that ever since playing Break the Tower because its Easter egg had delighted me so!
